That’s a wrap on our 2026 Canada Summer Job (CSJ) program!🎊 We were thrilled to have 7 youth join us this summer and partake in a wide array of Shekinah activities. In each of the houses, our CSJ students learned day-to-day tasks with Core Members, assisted in community outings, and planned some fantastic activities over the past couple months. Without a doubt, these youth have thoroughly brought excitement and joy to each of us this summer!

Some Canada Summer Jobs highlights include:✨

  • Community Holidays:🌈Youth joined the Shekinah community on a weeklong “holiday”! This included going to the museum to Tasha and Fiona’s favorite animal, horses, on the big IMAX screen, feasting at the Spaghetti Factory where Geoffrey and David H. thoroughly enjoyed their spaghetti, bowling against David B. and Peaches who kept hitting strikes, and enjoying a picnic at Fort Rod Hill while sitting on the grass with Zoe, Wilma, and Cheryl!
  • Nanaimo/Parksville Day Trip:🛣️ Some of the youth joined Pat and Jamie for a sunny day trip to Nanaimo where they watched sailboats on the ocean, walked through the beautiful, digitally projected artworks of Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet, and passed through Parksville for their annual Beach Festival to see the incredible sand sculptures!
  • End of Summer BBQ Bash:🌞At the end of August, our summer students put on an incredible backyard bash for friends and family, complete with delicious hamburgers, tasty cookies, and some refreshing iced tea! Andrew had his face painted and made tie-dye shirts with the students, while Sherry enjoyed a fun game of cornhole with Corinne, and others sang their hearts out in karaoke! The Core Members and staff had an absolute blast saying farewell to the CSJ youth.

While we’re sad to see their program end, we’re excited that some of these students will be staying on as casual staff for the fall, while others are going back to school and beginning their next career. We would like to wish them all the best in all their future endeavors!🫶🏻
